Happy Earth Day!!
Numerous MA restaurants are offering special Earth Day dinners into next week in honor of our dear planet. Get the list from the Chefs Collaborative Earth Dinner Program. Maybe you don’t need food to celebrate (boston.com) but there will be lots of it and more in honor of Earth Day at this afternoon’s Attleboro Farms Spring Farmer’s Market.
Palate and Planet
Local chef Joanne Chang of Flour and Myers+Chang, food writer Cory Kummer of The Atlantic and national food sustainability expert Helene York are hosting a free event on May 7th at the Museum of Science that will explore the intersection of our passion for food and our desire to protect the planet. Follow the link to save a seat. They’re limited.
YUM!
The Welcome Project, a Somerville community-based organization that supports the city’s refugee and immigrant groups, has started a new program called YUM and it involves a restaurant card. Think of it as a local passport to the diverse culinary world at your doorstep. Purchasing a YUM card ($12 online) will land you deals on meals at Somerville’s 13 immigrant-owned restaurants covering the cuisines of Italy, Brazil, Ethiopia, Haiti, Tibet, Mexico, India, Portugal, Thailand, the Mediterranean and Peru. Revenue generated by card sales will support The Welcome Project.
Boston. Bacon. Beer.
The Boston Bacon and Beer Fest is SOLD OUT, but you can still add your name to the waiting list for the chance to get into Saturday’s wow event sponsored by SoWa Sundays and @eatBoston. To newcomers: the Fest will be held at the Power Station in the SoWa district of the South End. Bacon-themed dishes from Boston area restaurants will be paired with beer from local breweries and all proceeds after expenses will be donated to Community Servings, Share our Strength, South End Youth Baseball and The Juniper Fund. (Just last week two tickets were raffled off, so you might just get lucky if you follow the @eatBoston on Twitter!)
Haven’t Had Your Fill?
Cupcakes again. The Ritz Boston is hosting their last in a series of cupcake-themed teas through this Saturday, April 24, at 2 and 4pm. The tea features a flight of five assorted mini cupcakes and the choice of tea, hot chocolate, milk or any other non-alcoholic beverage. They’ll be serving such delicacies as an almond cupcake with rhubarb jam and a chai spiced cupcake topped with chocolate. Sniff. If only all cupcakes were free, alla Cupcake Camp…
